Frequently Asked Questions About the Tatami Option

Q. Can it withstand heat?

Both the core material and surface material are designed to be heat-resistant. However, long-term data under the sauna’s unique combination of high temperatures, humidity, and repeated exposure is currently being evaluated. Therefore, initial installations are proposed as demonstration models.

Q. What about mold and odors?

Artificial rush grass is less prone to mold growth than natural rush grass. However, there is still a risk if moisture is retained or ventilation is insufficient. We recommend regular drying and checking the product after removing it. ※ As the product uses artificial rush grass, the material itself has no odor.

Q. Can tatami edging be added?

Yes, tatami edging is available. We also offer a wide range of design options.

Q. Are only the standard sizes available?

No. The length, width, and thickness can also be customized beyond the standard sizes. If you provide us with the dimensions of the area where you would like to install the tatami, we can recommend the appropriate size.

Q. Can it be made with fragrant natural rush grass?

Yes, it can. However, natural rush grass is less resistant to heat and absorbs moisture. Therefore, we generally recommend using natural rush grass in areas where there is no concern about exposure to water, such as spaces outside the sauna after a sauna session.

Q. Is it slip-resistant?

Our tatami products are also used by hot spring facilities as a measure to prevent slipping and falls in bathing areas. However, please refrain from using the product in spaces such as areas immediately after leaving the sauna.

Q. What happens if the product deteriorates?

Tatami can develop warping, shrinkage, and surface deterioration over time. This product is designed to minimize these risks, but such changes may still occur depending on usage conditions. Therefore, the product is designed for loose-lay installation, so that even if warping occurs, it will not interfere with sauna operations.

Q. Why hasn’t something like this existed until now?

The combination of high temperatures and humidity presents challenging conditions, and conventional tatami has had durability-related limitations in such environments. Drawing on our expertise in both the tatami and sauna businesses, we developed this product specifically to address these challenges.
